Our overnight at the hospital went great, so we got to take him home! Well, not home, home, but out of the hospital and to our lovely hotel. We're still waiting on the paperwork to be able to leave the state, but we have no idea how long that will be. In the meantime, we're busy cuddling, changing diapers, feeding, loving, burping (or attempting to burp), cleaning up emesis (I learned that word in the hospital!), and changing him into all kinds of adorable outfits.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers and support.

Pictures next post, I promise!

Roomin' in

We're staying with Gideon at the hospital tonight. By tomorrow afternoon we hope to have him untethered - free from any tubes, electrodes and cannulas - and out of the hospital.

It snowed today. This is our view tonight.

Today's Update:

Today Gideon's face is free of tubes! The doctor decided that he's doing well enough with breathing, so the nurse pulled it this morning. His bare face is just precious! We're praying he keeps his oxygen level up so that they don't have to put him back on it.

He's still not doing super well with feedings...he's pretty hard to burp and he gets lazy toward the end of the bottle. He spit up (on Ole again...atta boy!) this morning, but he did well for the feeding at noon. We'll see what happens at 3.

Good news: Gideon is off of antibiotics! The nurse pulled his line out of his little belly button today. Gideon didn't like it so much.

Not so good news: Gideon has an eye infection, which will be treated with eye drops. He's also not doing as well with his feedings and he lost some weight. He did well for me this morning but took a while. At his noon feeding, he ate about half of it and then promptly spit it up all over himself and daddy. :(

We're headed back to the NICU now for some CPR training.

Gideon was moved to the "Growers" section of the NICU last night. He's doing well. He has his oxygen back on because he forgets to breathe sometimes during feeding. But he is becoming a fantastic eater! It's so fun to watch him suck on that bottle and hear his little grunts as he gets so excited. I think they'll probably remove his feeding tube soon since he's almost at full feedings. The nurse told us this morning that he might have to come home with the oxygen on, but she really didn't seem to be worried about that.

Last night Ole got to give him a bath, which was fun to watch. Gideon didn't even cry...I think he liked it :). He's also starting to open his eyes more, which is delightful! He was weighed last night and he's definitely earned his spot in the "Growers" category.

We moved to the Ronald McDonald House yesterday. It's so much more convenient because it's right by the hospital...we just walk over.

Gideon is doing very well today. His x-ray this morning showed no signs of the pneumonia...it was all better already! Now he's working on steadily improving as they continue to give him antibiotics. We got to feed him today (yesterday he did get a little water in a bottle and he did okay--not great). He did awesome with the formula and he can now polish off an ounce during a feeding. Hopefully that's what he's doing with daddy right about now. He's ready to be moved to the "Growers" area--the least intensive section of the NICU--but they are so full of babies that he has to wait a bit longer.

Thank you all for you support and prayers. Please continue to pray for Gideon as he will be in the hospital for at least a few more days.

Here's a photo. Sorry it's more of us than of Gideon, but it's the best I've got for now.

A Mighty Warrior; A Precious Gift

We're parents! We have a precious little son.

Gideon Kruize Olson was born on Wednesday, the 20th. He's been in the NICU since shortly after birth with breathing problems, pneumonia, possible meningitis... He's doing alright, but it seems like it will be a long road to recovery.

We are adopting Gideon from my dear cousin. We are completely amazed by this gift she is giving us. Her love for Gideon is so evident; no human will ever give us a more wonderful gift than this one. We are so blessed.

Please be in prayer for Gideon and his road to recovery. We'll try to keep you updated and I promise to put pictures up soon.

Today I ate too many potato chips.

I guess that's all for today, I don't want to get blogged out.
